NR Series ENGINE CONTROL  SFI SYSTEM  Starter Signal Circuit  


DESCRIPTION

When the engine is being cranked by the engine switch, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to the park/neutral position switch assembly and then to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal). The ECM then performs control to start the engine.

NOTICE:

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.

·

When the starter assembly is replaced, the number of starter operations stored in the engine stop and start ECU must be reset.

When the starter assembly is replaced, "ST relay" must be also replaced.



PROCEDURE

1.CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED
a.

Check if the engine can be cranked.

Connect the GTS to DLC3.

Turn the ignition switch to ON.


c.

Turn the GTS on.


d.

Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Starter SW.

e.

Check the value displayed on the GTS when the ignition switch is turned to ON and the engine is started.

3 (ST relay) - C87-2 (SL1) Always Below 1 Ω
3 (ST relay) or C87-2 (SL1) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.


d.

Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.


e.

Remove the ST relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.


f.

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
A46-29 (STA) - C62-9 (L) Always Below 1 Ω
A46-29 (STA), C62-9 (L), O62-1 (STA), A124-21 (STA) or 1 (ST relay) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

Standard Resistance:

O62-2 (STAR) - C62-4 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
O62-2 (STAR), C62-4 (B), A46-57 (NSW) or A124-17 (CLL) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
