PROCEDURE

Hide 1.INSPECT AND ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT

HINT:

Inspect and adjust the brake pedal height with the floor carpet folded back.


a.

Remove the front door outside scuff plate RH.

Click hereVehicle Interior>INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM>ROOF HEADLINING (for Full-trim)>REMOVAL

HINT:

Use the same procedure described for the LH side.



b.

Remove the front door scuff plate RH.

Click hereVehicle Interior>INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM>ROOF HEADLINING (for Full-trim)>REMOVAL

HINT:

Use the same procedure described for the LH side.



c.

Remove the cowl side trim board RH.

Click hereVehicle Interior>INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM>INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD>REMOVAL

HINT:

Use the same procedure described for the LH side.



d.

Fold back the front floor carpet assembly.


e.

Check the brake pedal height.

i.

Measure the shortest distance between the left edge of the brake pedal pad and dash panel.

Brake Pedal Height from Dash Panel.:

218.7 to 232.7 mm (8.61 to 9.16 in.)


NOTICE:

Insert a vernier caliper into the dash panel insulator slit until it contacts the vehicle body, and measure the brake pedal height.


HINT:

If the brake pedal height is not as specified, inspect and adjust the push rod length according to the procedure below.




f.

Adjust the brake pedal height.

i.

Remove the stop light switch assembly.

Click hereVehicle Exterior>LIGHTING (EXT)>STOP LIGHT SWITCH>REMOVAL


ii.

Remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

Click hereVehicle Interior>SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS>KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY>REMOVAL

Loosen the clevis lock nut and adjust the brake pedal height by turning the push rod to achieve the correct height.

Brake Pedal Height from Dash Panel:

218.7 to 232.7 mm (8.61 to 9.16 in.)



iv.

Tighten the clevis lock nut.

Torque:
26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf)


v.

Install the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

Install the stop light switch assembly.

Install the front floor carpet assembly to its original position.

Install the cowl side trim board RH.

i.

Install the front door scuff plate RH.

Install the front door outside scuff plate RH.

Hide 2.INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY

a.

Stop the engine and firmly depress the brake pedal several times until no vacuum is left in the brake booster assembly.

Depress the brake pedal until a slight resistance is felt. Measure the distance as shown in the illustration.

Brake Pedal Free Play:

1.0 to 6.0 mm (0.0394 to 0.236 in.)


If the brake pedal free play is not as specified, check the stop light switch clearance.

Measure the brake pedal reserve distance at the same point used for the brake pedal height inspection.

Remove the front door outside scuff plate RH.

Remove the front door scuff plate RH.

d.

Fold back the front floor carpet assembly.


e.

With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and measure the brake pedal reserve distance.
