PROCEDURE

1.INSPECT No. 2 4 WHEEL DRIVE POSITION SWITCH
a.

Turn the engine switch off.



c.

Connect 3 1.5 V dry batteries in series.

Connect terminal 1 (TVCR) to the batteries positive (+) terminal, and terminal 3 (TER) to the batteries negative (-) terminal.


e.

Move a piece of metal close to the edge of the No. 2 4 wheel drive position switch, and then move it away and check that the resistance changes.


f.

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
2 (TNR) - 3 (TER) Low (Move piece of metal away) 150 to 620 Ω
2 (TNR) - 3 (TER) High (Move piece of metal closer) 1.1 to 6.2 kΩ

a.

Turn the engine switch off.


b.

Disconnect the N3 4WD ECU assembly connector.


c.

Disconnect the O4 No. 2 4 wheel drive position switch connector.


d.

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
N3-4 (TNR) - O4-2 (TNR) Always Below 1 Ω
N3-15 (TVCR) - O4-1 (TVCR) Always Below 1 Ω
N3-14 (TER) - O4-3 (TER) Always Below 1 Ω
N3-4 (TNR) or O4-2 (TNR) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
