PROCEDURE

Hide 43502H 8.REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT

Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the front axle shaft nut.

SST
09930-00010  (09931-00010, 09931-00020)

NOTICE:

Fully loosen the staked part of the front axle shaft nut, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.



b.

While applying the brakes, using a 30 mm deep socket wrench, remove the front axle shaft nut.


Hide 11.SEPARATE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY

Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor and front flexible hose from the front shock absorber assembly.

NOTICE:

Be sure to separate the front speed sensor and front flexible hose from the front shock absorber assembly completely.



b.

Remove the bolt, disengage the clamp and separate the front speed sensor from the front shock absorber assembly and steering knuckle.

NOTICE:
·

Prevent foreign matter from contacting the sensor tip.

·

Be careful not to damage the front speed sensor.

·

Clean the speed sensor installation hole and the contact surfaces every time the front speed sensor is removed.

Put matchmarks on the front drive shaft assembly and the front axle hub sub-assembly.


d.

Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly.

NOTICE:
·

Do not damage the front axle outboard joint boot.

·

Do not push the front axle assembly towards the outside of the vehicle any further than necessary.



HINT:

If it is difficult to separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly, tap the end of the front drive shaft assembly using a brass bar and a hammer.

Using SST, remove the front drive shaft assembly LH.

·

Do not damage the front drive shaft oil seal LH.

·

Do not damage the front axle inboard joint boot.

·

Do not damage the front drive shaft dust cover LH.

·

Do not drop the front drive shaft assembly LH.

·

When carrying the front drive shaft assembly LH, hold it horizontally.




Hide 43410 13.REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH (for Gasoline Model 2WD, HV Model)

Remove the 2 bolts and pull out the drive shaft together with the drive shaft bearing case sub-assembly.


b.

Remove the front drive shaft assembly RH from the drive shaft bearing bracket.

NOTICE:
·

Do not damage the front drive shaft oil seal RH.

·

Do not damage the front axle inboard joint boot.

·

Do not damage the front drive shaft dust cover RH.

·

Do not drop the front drive shaft assembly RH.

·

When carrying the front drive shaft assembly RH, hold it horizontally.



HINT:

If it is difficult to disengage the fitting, tap the end of the front drive inboard joint assembly with a brass bar and a hammer.



Hide 43410 14.REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH (for Gasoline Model AWD)

Separate the drive shaft bearing bracket hole snap ring from the drive shaft bearing bracket.


b.

Remove the No. 1 drive shaft bearing bracket setting bolt and front drive shaft assembly RH from the transfer assembly.

NOTICE:
·

Do not damage the transfer case oil seal RH.

·

Do not damage the front axle inboard joint boot.

·

Do not drop the front drive shaft assembly RH.

·

Do not damage the front drive shaft dust cover RH.

·

When carrying the front drive shaft assembly RH, hold it horizontally.



HINT:

If it is difficult to disengage the fitting, tap the end of the front drive inboard joint assembly with a brass bar and a hammer.



c.

Remove the drive shaft bearing bracket hole snap ring from the front drive shaft assembly RH.

Using a screwdriver, remove the front drive shaft hole snap ring LH.
