When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.
When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
Refer to the illustration to confirm the type of drive shaft assembly.

1.REMOVE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH (for Type A)
Using pliers, remove the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

2.REMOVE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH (for Type B)
Using needle-nose pliers, remove the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

3.REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH
Use the same procedure described for the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.
4.DISCONNECT INBOARD JOINT BOOT
Disconnect the inboard joint boot from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

5.REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH (for Type A)

Remove any old grease from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.
Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH and rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.
Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.
Using a screwdriver, remove the drive shaft snap ring from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.
Remove the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

Put matchmarks on the rear outboard joint shaft assembly LH, inner race and ball cage.
Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.
Remove the 6 balls.
Do not drop the balls.
Slide the ball cage toward the outboard joint side.
Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.
Using a brass bar and a hammer, remove the inner race from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH.
Do not drop the inner race.
Remove the ball cage.
Remove the rear No. 2 rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH, rear drive shaft inboard joint boot and rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

6.REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY (for Type B)
Remove the old grease from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly.

Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly and rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly.
Do not use a punch for the marks.
Remove the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly.
Secure the drive shaft in a vise between aluminum plates.
Do not overtighten the vise.
Using a snap ring expander, remove the shaft snap ring from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly.

Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly and tripod joint.
Do not use a punch for the marks.
Using a brass bar and a hammer, tap out the tripod joint from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly.
Do not tap the rollers.
Do not drop the tripod joint.

7.REMOVE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH (for Type A)
Using a screwdriver, remove the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

8.REMOVE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH (for Type B)
Secure the drive shaft in a vise between aluminum plates.
Do not overtighten the vise.
Using pliers, remove the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp as shown in the illustration.

9.REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH
Using pliers, remove the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.
10.REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT
Remove the outboard joint boot from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.
Remove any old grease from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.
