AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL  DIFFERENTIAL OIL  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  


PROCEDURE

Hide 1.INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL (except Torque Vectoring Differential)

a.

Stop the vehicle on a level surface.

Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

*a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.)


Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the differential filler plug hole.

NOTICE:
·

After changing the oil seal, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.

·

Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.




d.

If there is not enough oil, inspect for oil leaks and fill the differential carrier assembly with Toyota genuine differential gear oil LX API GL-5 or equivalent

Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.

Torque:
39 N*m (398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf)


Hide 2.INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Torque Vectoring Differential)

a.

Stop the vehicle on a level surface.

Remove the 2 bolts.

Move aside the No. 2 differential disconnect cover as shown in the illustration.

Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

Excessively large or small quantities of oil may cause problems.

Using transfer oil other than the specified oil may cause abnormal noise or vibration, or damage the transfer of your vehicle.

Using SST, 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and union nut wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.

Specified tightening torque : 39 N*m (398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf)

HINT:
·

Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)):

19.9 N*m (203 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
