PRECAUTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND RECONNECTING CABLE TO NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL


NOTICE:

After the ignition switch is turned off, there may be a waiting time before disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal.

IGNITION SWITCH EXPRESSION


HINT:

The type of ignition switch used on this model differs depending on the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.

PRECAUTION


NOTICE:

If the Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) assembly or ECM is replaced, make sure to perform Reset Memory.

·

Performing Reset Memory will clear the learned values of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration) and the CVT oil pressure (CVT Oil Pressure Calibration). Make sure to perform Reset Memory, Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration and CVT Oil Pressure Calibration if any of the parts in the following table have been replaced.

The CVT fluid has been replaced.

HINT:

If 50000 or more is displayed for the Data List item "ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate", thermal degradation of the CVT fluid is suspected. Perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset after replacing the CVT fluid.

Approximately 50% or more of the CVT fluid has been replaced during a repair of the transaxle or a similar operation.





HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Do not perform a stall test if there are any people or objects near the vehicle.

The vehicle could begin moving suddenly, resulting in a serious accident.

Do not perform the stall test on a slippery or low-friction surface that could allow the tires to spin.

Do not blow compressed air without wearing safety glasses.

CVT fluid could enter your eyes, possibly resulting in blindness.



NOTICE:
·

Before removing components from the transaxle, clean off any sand, dirt or other foreign matter present on the exterior of the transaxle. Make sure that foreign matter does not contaminate the inside of the transaxle when parts are removed or installed, or during disassembly and reassembly of the transaxle.

·

When disassembling light alloy parts such as the transaxle case, do not pry them with a screwdriver or similar tool. Instead, tap the parts with a plastic hammer to separate them.

·

Do not wear cloth gloves or use cloth to handle parts during removal, disassembly, or installation of the transaxle. Instead, wear synthetic gloves to prevent cloth fiber from entering the transaxle.

·

Removed parts should be arranged in order and care should be taken to prevent dust contamination.

·

Apply Toyota Genuine CVT Fluid FE to all sliding surfaces and rotating parts.

·

Before installing O-rings and oil seal rings, coat them with Toyota Genuine CVT Fluid FE and be sure not to damage them.

·

Be careful not to damage the sealing surfaces of components, because damage to these surfaces can cause oil leaks.

·

Before applying seal packing, remove all of the old seal packing and thoroughly clean the surfaces with a non-residue solvent.

·

Use of Toyota Genuine CVT Fluid FE is recommended.

·

Do not subject parts such as sensors to any impacts. Replace parts with new ones if they are dropped or subjected to a severe impact.
