PARKING BRAKE  PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM(w/o Electric Parking Brake)  ADJUSTMENT  


PROCEDURE

Hide 1.INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

a.

Fully pull the parking brake lever to engage the parking brake.


b.

Release the lever to disengage the parking brake.


c.

Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way, and count the number of clicks.

Standard Parking Brake Lever Travel when Pulled with a Force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):

8 to 11 clicks


If the parking brake lever travel is not as specified, adjust the parking brake shoe clearance and parking brake lever travel.

Place your hand at the position shown in the illustration and pull in the direction of the arrow to detach the claw and remove the parking brake hole cover sub-assembly.

Remove the bolt and No. 3 consol box mounting bracket.


Hide 7.ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Rear Drum Brake)

a.

Completely release the parking brake lever.

*1 No. 1 Wire Adjusting Nut
*2 Lock Nut


Loosen the lock nut and No. 1 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.


c.

Temporarily install the hub nuts to the hub bolts.

HINT:

Securely install the hub nuts to the rear brake drum sub-assembly.




e.

Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.


f.

Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times.


g.

Turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to be within the specified range.

Standard Parking Brake Lever Travel when Pulled with a Force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):

8 to 11 clicks



h.

Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the No. 1 wire adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

Torque:
6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)


i.

Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

Standard Parking Brake Lever Travel when Pulled with a Force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):

8 to 11 clicks



j.

Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.


k.

Remove the hub nuts from the hub bolts.


Hide 8.ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Rear Disc Brake)

a.

Completely release the parking brake lever.

*2 Lock Nut


Loosen the lock nut and No. 1 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.


c.

Temporarily install the hub nuts to the hub bolts.

HINT:

Securely install the hub nuts to the rear disc.



d.

Remove the parking brake shoes adjusting hole plug.

Expand


Turn the parking brake shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.


f.

Turn and contract the parking brake shoe adjuster until the rear disc can rotate smoothly.

Standard:

Returns 8 notches.



g.

Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.


h.

Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times.


i.

Turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to be within the specified range.

Standard Parking Brake Lever Travel when Pulled with a Force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):

8 to 11 clicks



j.

Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the No. 1 wire adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

Torque:
6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)


k.

Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

Standard Parking Brake Lever Travel when Pulled with a Force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):

8 to 11 clicks



l.

Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.


m.

Check that the parking brake does not drag.


n.

Remove the hub nuts from the hub bolts.

Install the No. 3 consol box mounting bracket with the bolt.
