Hide 1.INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT AND INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

Using a dial indicator, measure the propeller shaft and intermediate shaft runout.

Maximum Runout:
Item Specified Condition
No. 1 Propeller shaft 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.)
No. 2 Propeller shaft 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.)
Intermediate shaft 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.)


If the shaft runout is more than the maximum, replace the shaft.


Hide 2.INSPECT SPIDER BEARING

Check the spider bearings for wear or damage.

Check the axial play of each spider bearing by turning the yoke while holding the shaft tightly.

Maximum bearing axial play:

0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)


If the bearing axial play is more than the maximum, replace the spider bearing.

HINT:

Use the same procedure all center bearing.


a.

While turning the center No. 1 support bearing assembly by hand, check that it turns smoothly without catching and that there are no cracks or damage.

If there are any defects, replace the bearing.

If there is any damage to the lip of the center No. 1 support bearing assembly case, replace the bearing.
