Immediately after installing the brake shoes, the braking performance may be reduced. Always perform a road test in a safe place while paying attention to the surroundings.
After replacing the brake shoes, always perform a road test to check the braking performance and check for vibrations.
Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
The following procedure is for the LH side.
1.REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2.DRAIN BRAKE FLUID
If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, immediately wash it off.

3.REMOVE BRAKE DRUM

Release the parking brake and remove the brake drum.
If the brake drum cannot be removed easily, perform the following procedure.
Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug and insert a screwdriver through the hole into the brake backing plate, and hold the rear brake automatic adjust lever away from the adjuster.
Using another screwdriver, contract the brake shoe by turning the adjusting bolt.

4.SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

Using SST, separate the tension spring from the brake shoe (front).
Do not damage the wheel cylinder boot.
Remove the tension spring.
Remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, shoe hold down spring pin and brake shoe (front).
Remove the lower parking brake shoe strut.
Remove the shoe tension spring.
Remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, shoe hold down spring pin and brake shoe (rear).
Using needle-nose pliers, separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear brake parking brake shoe lever.
5.REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER
Remove the rear brake automatic adjust lever tension spring and rear brake automatic adjust lever.
6.REMOVE REAR BRAKE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 C-washers and parking brake reaction lever.
Remove the rear brake strut kit and rear brake parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly from the brake shoe (rear).

7.REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
As disassembly or inspection of the rear wheel brake cylinder assembly can be performed while it is installed to the backing plate, it is not necessary to remove the rear wheel brake cylinder assembly unless it is being replaced.
Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the rear brake tube from the rear wheel brake cylinder assembly.
Do not kink or damage the brake line.
Do not allow any foreign matter such as dirt or dust to enter the brake line from the connecting parts.
Remove the 2 bolts and rear wheel brake cylinder assembly from the brake backing plate.
